Oreanda hotel was born under a happy star. It could have happened because the place for building the hotel in 1907 was chosen by none other than the retired general of audacious hussar regiment, the professor who taught tactics of military success at the Academy of General Staff, Alexander Vitmer.

Pre-revolutionary guide-books inform that the hotel had "perfect provision, excellent furniture, mirror glasses, cleanness and much fresh air, a well kept garden around". In the lobbies of the hotel of that time an incomparable smell of cigars was mixed with the aroma of fresh grounded coffee and expensive perfumes, and in its art saloon it was not unusual to exhibit the masterpieces of Aivazovskiy and Shishkin, Makovskiy and Vereschagin, and others who started the cultural tradition of Oreanda.

Strong winds of that epoch did not have mercy upon the best hotel in the area. During the revolutionary period its walls served as a fort post and a defensive fortification for the White Guardists, and during the World War II a military hospital was placed in the hotel. After the war the hotel transformed to a recreation center and regained the status of a hotel only by the end of 1950th. With its various statuses the hotel was three times reconstructed in 1950th, 1980th and in 2001.

The great thing is that in spite of a complete modernization, a fascinating view of the architecture of the beginning of the XXth century was saved. As always, Oreanda is recognized and loved, and a pilgrimage of VIP and highly respected people doesn`t stop either, and a super modern, equipped with the latest technologies, Crimean hotel is a visiting card of Yalta till now.
